Desert Tower Project
In November of 2010 Steph Davis called me to tell me about a project she was getting ready to start. Her plan was to free climb 4 desert towers in the Moab area and base jump off of them. Each tower had a unique twist to it, but the true intention of the project was to simply take advantage in local adventure on the unique terrain of her home town, Moab Utah. I immediately jumped on the chance to be a part of it, how could I not? The opportunity to photograph and film Steph Davis climbing classic desert towers, making first free ascents, doing jumps no women has ever done, and more importantly, being apart of this unique project. It something I couldn’t possibly turn my back on.
Winter in Moab is unlike anywhere else. It’s stunningly beautiful and isolated. Most days we were the only people in the expansive valley’s and canyons. The noise of good conversation, laughter, tinkling of gear swaying while climbing up a wall, and the thunderous sound of a base canopy deploying, were the only sounds you would hear all day. Working with Steph is always a great experience. Her dedication to the adventures she has is contagious, full of fun, and an experience you take with you for the rest of your life. I had the pleasure of working with a great team of people, who without, this project never would have been possible: Steph Davis, Mario Richards, Andy Mann, Jorge Visser, and Chris Hunter. It was the perfect way to spend a portion of the winter and I can’t wait to do it again. Here is the teaser from the project, and a small behind the scenes slide show. Much more coming soon. I hope you enjoy it:
